Definition
FIN object types (and with them their instances, FIN objects) can be arranged in a hierarchical sequence. Objects that are not subordinate to any other objects are given hierarchy level 1.

Example
Orders and order items are represented as FIN object types. An order item is subordinate to an order in the hierarchy. In this way, the order has hierarchy level 1 and the order item has hierarchy level 2.
