Definition
A Version can be active or inactive.
It is only active when it has the status 'active', for all other statuses it is inactive.
You can change the status by pressing a pushbutton.
When creating an instance (for example, account, contract) for a product, the version active at this time is used as template.
As long as instances exist for a version, this must keep the status 'active'. If there are still accounts for a version in your productive system, the version may not be deactivated in the legacy system either ('Flagged for archiving').
At any given time there can only be one active version of a product; this means that the validity periods of the active versions may not overlap.
