Documentation
Definition
The internal key for attributes and products is generated automatically. It consists of a 10 character prefix and a consecutive number.
For every system in which attributes or products are created, use a different prefix to avoid products or attributes being overwritten during transport.
The prefix itself is not transported. You can maintain the prefix for your system in the IMG. If you wish to create a product or an attribute and the prefix is not entered, the system automatically asks you for the prefix.
Recommendation for naming the prefix
Customers
SAP recommends that customers use the prefix 'Z' for their main office and to have the prefix for their subsidiaries begin with 'Y', for example, 'Y001'.
Partners
Partners should begin and end their prefix with a slash, for example, '/ABC/'.
SAP
Every department within SAP has its own prefix. The prefix always begins with 'SAP', for example, for Bank Current Accounts, 'SAP BCA'.
