Definition
A master data code is a concept used to distinguish between different sorts of master data depending on the origin of the information or the validity area.
Comment
A master data code is required when multiple sources of information exist about an identical issue. For example, different parts of your company might want to have an individual perspective on a topic matter.
Master data codes are used primarily to organize market data, such as currency exchange rates taken from external sources. In larger companies, market data is often drawn from several suppliers that provide information with varying degrees of precision and which is not always up-to-date. Different areas of your company may have different requirements regarding the quality of information and how up to date it is and are therefore able to access the sources most appropriate to them. In such cases, different areas can work with their own master data code.
The master data code must always be quoted when accessing master data that is differentiated by a master data code.
