Definition
This indicates that the reference period for the employee contributions is a regular period.
The reference period is the period during which the total contributions are cumulated.
Note, this is not the period for which the contribution is valid (this is defined in the employee contribution rule variant), and may not necessarily be the same as the employee's pay frequency.
Example
The employee contribution rule variant states that the employee may contribute up to 48 units annually. The reference period is the regular period 'annual'.
The employee actually chooses to contribute only 24 units for the year.
After 4 months, the employee decides to raise the contribution to the maximum of 48 units for the year.
For the first three months, the employee contributes as follows:
24 target units/12 months = 2 units per month
2 X 4 months to date = 8 units paid
Then the employee raises the target for the year:
48 target units - 8 = 40 units to pay
40/8 remaining months = 5 units per month
This shows how the employee doubled the target amount for the year, yet more than doubled the monthly contribution, to make up for previously lower contributions.
