Documentation
Definition
Specifies standard tax deductions for the 'from salary' range issued by the Revenue Service. These figures are continually updated in accordance with the latest tax rules.
Note
The last two digits of the amount in this field indicate cents. For example, the value 10020 is R100.20.
Example
The system calculates taxes as follows: Based on the 1998 tax year, if an employee's annual salary is R40,000 his or her tax deduction would be R8,800. As the salary R40,000 is between the tax range of R35,000 and R45,000, the tax on R40,000 is calculated by first taking the basic deduction for R35,000 which is R7,200. Then, the R5,000 (difference between R40,000 and R35,000) is taxed at 32% to equal R1,600. (The 32% is the standard tax percentage for the salary range R35,000 to R45,000). Finally, the total tax is the sum of R7,200 + R1,600 or R8,800.
