Definition

Specifies where the system finds the BW InfoObjects or BW key figures or data elements that are to form the basis for registering the characteristics on the databasis.

The business domain determines the logical system (RFC destination) where these InfoObjects or data elements are located. In cases involving registration on SAP BW, the business domain also determines a separate catalog for the InfoObjects or key figures.

Use

When a databasis is created, it must first have a business domain assigned to it. Here, you choose either a basic group of InfoObjects and key figures or that same group together with the data elements of the entire Data Dictionary that you then use to select the InfoObjects, key figures and/or data elements when maintaining the fields of the databasis.

Currently, you can only select the InfoObjects and key figures from a BW system. For this reason, it is also useful to only edit a business domain that references a BW system (be it local or remote).

Registration to the data elements of a Data Dictionary cannot currently be edited manually.

Notes:

A business domain can be located in a local or remote system

The following types of business domains are generally possible:

  • Business domain with property R/3 System:
    • The System Type field (technical name:ACC_SYSTYPE) of the business domain contains value "R3".
    • It is only possible to register data elements from the DDIC (local or remote). Registration cannot currently be edited manually.
    • Following logical systems are possible:

      - Local system: RFC destination is not filled or references the local system.

      - Remote system: RFC destination is filled and does not reference the local system.

  • Business domain with property Non-R/3 System:
    • The System Type field (technical name:ACC_SYSTYPE) of the business domain is not filled.
    • Registration of InfoObjects/key figures (local or remote) and of local data elements from the DDIC is permitted (registration to data elements of the DDIC cannot currently be edited manually).
    • The following logical systems can be selected:

      - Local system: RFC destination is not filled or references the local system.

      - Remote system: RFC destination is filled and does not reference the local system.
