User group for Authorization Check

By assigning a user to a user group for the authorization check on the Logon Data tab page, you can divide user maintenance between different user administrators. The system administrator can assign the right to create and change users in a group to the respective user administrator. The User master maintenance: User groups ( S_USER_GRP) authorization object can be used to assign various administrators to user groups.

Users who are not assigned to any group can be maintained by all administrators.

General user groups

Dividing users into user groups on the Groups tab page is primarily used to group users for mass maintenance (Transaction SU10). User groups are also used by the Global User Manager, (Transaction SUUM).

Users can be assigned to one or more groups during user maintenance on the Groups tab page.

Maintenance of user groups

User groups are created using the funcion Environment -> User Groups -> Maintain. If you are using central user management, the user groups employed must be created in all systems.

Use

Procedure

Enter the name of a group here to assign a user to a group. A user can only belong to one group.

The SUPER group is reserved for users who can only be maintained by the super user in the user authorizations defined by SAP. If you want to work with SAP standard profiles, you can for example assign user and authorization administrators to this group. This protects these users from unauthorized changes.

Note: Users, who are not assigned to any group, can be changed by any user administrator.

New group?

Choose any name. You do not need to define the name in other system locations. Users, whose user master contains the same group name, belong to the same group automatically.

Benefit:

Assigning the user to a group guarantees data security and reduces the maintenance required. The master records that belong to a group can only be maintained by a group administrator.

A group administrator cannot maintain users for another group. The ensuing work required can be divided between various other users.

Procedure

Enter the name of the group whose users are to be displayed. No restriction: Do not make any entry in this field.

Generic search: Enter a character string. The system displays all values that start with the character string specified.
