Definition
Reference numbers are transferred from the feeder system to SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS). They contain (for example) links to documents in the feeder system or links to processes that were initiated in the feeder system and can trigger follow-up activities in SAP GTS.
Use
You can use the reference numbers in SAP GTS to select documents and process steps from the feeder system.
Example
Reference numbers can be document numbers from the feeder system, such as a billing document number. This billing document number can define the link between the processes in the feeder system and the processes in SAP GTS. When the result of a process in SAP GTS that was initiated by a billing document in the feeder system has to be transferred to the feeder system, the system uses the reference number to identify the process.
