Definition
You use this indicator to control whether the system considers designated intermediate materials in the preference determination for a bill of product for the NAFTA rule set.
Use
An overreaching preference rule in the NAFTA preference zone lets you flag a BOP component as a designated intermediate material once within a specific bill of product, provided that this component becomes an originating good due to specific, applied preference rules. As a result of this indicator, the system can use the entire value of this BOP component as the orignating value. This can increase the value of the originating shares in a bill of product, influencing the preference eligibility of a product. This indicator can only be applied once within a vertical line in a bill of product.
When you set this indicator, the system determines the component (and flags it as a designated intermediate material) that would provide the maximum possible benefit for achieving preference eligibility for the main component.
If you do not set this indicator, the system cannot apply teh preference rule for the designated intermediate materials in the preference determination for the NAFTA rule set.
