Documentation
Definition
The legal unit represents the site where the business processes are executed.
Use
In Compliance Management, the legal units are used to determine the country of destination for imports and the country of departure for exports. Legal units can also be used as attributes for import licenses and export licenses.
In Customs Management, the legal units are used to determine authorizations and find printers for the output messages. You can default data based on the legal unit. The plant assigned to the legal unit is used to determine the IDs for customs procedures with economic impact (customs warehouse, inward processing, and inward processing).
In Preference Processing, the legal units are used to determine the administrative units, as well as the countries of departure and destination for agreement determination. Price data is saved for specific legal units for preference determination. The plant assigned to the legal unit is used to save the procurement indicator and saleability of products.
In Letter of Credit Management, like Compliance Management, the legal units are used to determine the country of destination for imports and the country of departure for exports. Legal units can also be used as attributes for letters of credit.
In Restitution, like Compliance Management, the legal units are used to determine the country of destination for imports and the country of departure for exports. Legal units can also be used as attributes for export licenses.
Dependencies
The legal units must be assigned uniquely to the respective organizational units in the feeder system, such as the plants in an SAP system, to ensure seamless integration of all GTS modules. Even if you do not use all the GTS functions, unique mapping makes monitoring much more transparent.
The address data of the legal units must be identical to that of the corresponding organizational units in the feeder system.
SAP recommends mapping addresses in the namespace of an external number range interval for business partners, to enable distribution of the legal units from the development system to downstream systems.
You should only consider grouping plants with identical IDs from different feeder systems with a single legal unit if these IDs represent the same physical site and if the master data in the involved systems is completely harmonized. This can be useful, for example, if you use a group template for several SAP ERP systems.
Example
Definition of legal unit FTVBS_1000 to map plant 1000.
