Documentation
Definition
First names and middle names (in particular) are often abbreviated with the corresponding initials, for example. Franklin D. Roosevelt instead of Franklin Delano Roosevelt.
The initial comprises the first letter of each name:
Franklin = F.
Delano = D.
Abbreviations such as St for Stephen or Ph for Phillip are not valid initials. The correct values are S. for Stephen and P. for Phillip.
Use
If you set this flag, initials will be taken into account during sanctioned party list screening.
Dependencies
The inclusion of initials may result in longer runtimes during sanctioned party list screening, as the number of search terms to screen increases.
Example
The name Jose Maria Sison is defined in the sanctioned party list. The name J. M. Sison is specified in the business partner address. If initials are not considered (default value), only one of the three names of the SPL address (Sison) agrees with the business partner address (33.33%). Since a threshold of 50% generally has to be reached, this SPL address is not considered a match.
If the "initials of names" function is included, the initials J. and M. are compared with the names Jose and Marie. In this example, the program recognizes that Sison matches and that a suitable name can be found for each initial.
A business partner address defined as J. M. Johnson would not trigger a match for either SPL address J. M. Sison or Jose Maria Sison, as the initials alone are not considered sufficient.
The match of an initial does not have the same weight as a complete name match. Depending on the system sensitivity, for example, the business address "J. T. J. Walters" might not raise a match for SPL address Jason Theodore James Walters, because three initials in four words is simply too uncertain. In contrast, "Jason T. J. Walters" would generate a match. You can also reduce the threshold in Customizing, if desired.
