Definition
The "Conditional Elimination of Duplicate Characters" function takes the share of a duplicate character in the importance of the overall term into account when it generates the search terms. Among other things, this prevents the manipulation of abbreviations of company names that would otherwise be excluded from screening improperly.
Use
If you set this flag, then duplicate characters will only be eliminated during the generation of search terms if this would cause the overall length of the search term to become so short as to exclude that search term from SPL screening.
If you do not set this flag, then duplicate characters will always be eliminated.
Dependencies
Note that you can set a global minimum length for the search term for all sanctioned party lists. If you have saved different lengths for each list type and address attribute, then the longer length applies.
We recommend using the same term length for all list types.
Example
One of your business partner's full name is TZZ Co. You have defined a minimum length of 3 characters per search term in GTS Customizing.
If you do not set the "Conditional Elimination of Duplicate Characters" flag, then the duplicate character will be eliminated when the search terms are generated, which means the search terms are TZ and Co. Because both search terms are less than 3 characters long, they are not included in sanctioned party list screening, and you cannot screen the business partner.
If you set the "Conditional Elimination of Duplicate Characters" flag, the system detects that eliminating the duplicate character would result in exclusion of the term. The name TZZ remains unchanged in this case.
