Definition
A posting period is a self-contained part of a fiscal year.
Use
Every business transaction is assigned to a posting period. The transaction figures for the different business transactions are accumulated for each posting period.

Example
Examples of divisions into periods:
- per calendar month, making 12 posting periods
- every four weeks, making 13 posting periods
- per week, making either 52 or 53 posting periods
