Use
You can create and maintain key figure definitions in Customizing for the Key Figure Monitor. This overview describes the organizational activities of a system administrator in the area of key figures in Innovation Management (INM).
Requirements
To be able to use key figures, for example, in Metrics Management, you have to create key figure definitions for object types, such as RIH for the item.
Standard settings
Activities
Object Types
SAP supports the creation of key figure definitions for the object types item (RIH) and initiative (IPO).
Define Key Figures
In the Define Key Figures activity, you create templates for key figures. These templates are used later on to generate key figures at runtime. To do this, the system transfers the attributes of the key figure definition. For more information, see Customizing for SAP Portfolio and Project Management (SAP PPM) under SAP Portfolio and Project Management -> Portfolio Management -> Global Customizing -> Process and Service Settings -> Key Figure Monitor.
Key Figure Reports
Key figure values for key figures are calculated from key figure reports. You have to define the reports for determining values and their variants in the activity and you have to create the variants before you specify them. You do not have to enter any attributes for the variant; the variant does not influence how the values are determined but is required for technical reasons. You can use the SAP system variants (SAP&) that are supplied for the reports. The reports can contain any implementation that supplies the key figure values to be output.
SAP provides a selection of reports with the standard system for determining the values of key figures in Innovation Management (INM). The selection includes the item and initiative in the portfolio management area. The system provides reports for both object types that calculate the attributes of an object.
The following tables contain the attributes of the objects:

If you do not want to use the attributes supplied with the standard system, you can copy the SAP reports to your customer-specific namespace and adjust them to meet your requirements. You can also use them in the key figure definition.
Warning
In this case, the report is a customer-specific modification.
Use in Metrics Management
If you want to use key figures in Metrics Management, you only require key figure definitions. The system does not take groupings or aggregation into account.
In addition, when you use key figures in Metrics Management, you can allow the system to calculate their threshold values dynamically; in the key figure definition, the determination of threshold values is not dynamic.
Maintaining Threshold Values
In the Define Threshold Values for Objects activity, you can adjust the dynamic threshold value for individual key figures that have already been determined. Changes are only transferred to the operational key figure data once you have executed the administrator report /RPM/ST_ITEM_ICON.
BAdI: Threshold Values for Key Figure Monitor
In the key figure definition you have the option of allowing the system to calculate threshold values and the display format of a key figure dynamically. You do not make any entries for the display format or threshold values, but execute the relevant BAdI implementation.
For more information about the functions executed by the BAdI, see the implementing sample class and the documentation for the BAdI. When key figures are created, the BAdI takes the values of the key figures and generates threshold values and display formats according to the object.
If values exist for the object and calculation, the system can create the key figure for the object. If the calculation fails, the system issues an error message for the key figure. You can check the BAdI implementation and check whether values exist in the BAdI.
Note that once the key figure has been created, the system no longer calls the BAdI for calculating threshold values of the object at runtime, for performance reasons. The threshold values that have already been created can be fully updated or adjusted when the report /RPM/SET_ITEM_ICONS is executed.
Administrator Reports
- /RPM/SET_ITEM_ICONS
- INM_KFM_REP_ADMIN_DELETE
Report for deleting all key figures for a particular key figure definition
- INM_KFM_REP_ADMIN_DELETE_MISSN
Report for finding and deleting key figures without an object assignment
- INM_KFM_REP_ADMIN_MODIFY
