Use
In this Customizing activity, you can do the following:
- Define initiative types
- Define decision points for an initiative type
- Define a set of available statuses for a decision point
- Define the next status for a status of a decision point and corresponding workflow ID
- Define the permitted initiative types available for switching to, dependent on the decision point statuses.
- Link available items of initiative types to an initiative type
- Link a specific decision point of an item of initiative type to a decision point of an initiative type
- Enable initiative-type-specific metrics management
Requirements
You have maintained the required workflow IDs by choosing Define Workflow IDs.
For initiative-type-specific metrics, you must have made the following Customizing settings:
- You have implemented the BAdI Portfolio-Management-Specific Metrics Management.
- You have defined metrics groups under Define Metrics Groups.
- You have defined metrics in Customizing under Define Metrics.
- You have defined metrics value types under Define Metrics Value Types.

Activities
Create/Select Initiative Type
Here you define a new initiative type or modify an existing initiative type. If you want to define the initiative type as a proposal, set the indicator in the Proposal column. When you set this indicator, all initiatives assigned to this initiative type are displayed on the Proposals tab page of the Initiative dashboard in the front-end application.
Link Initiative Type and Decision Points
Here you define all decision points for an initiative type and the name of the decision point. If the proposal indicator for the active decision point of an initiative is set, the initiative is considered as a proposal.
Decision Point Status
Here you define the possible statuses of a decision point, that is, start status or end status. You also define the icon for the statuses.
Decision Point Status - Next Statuses
You define the next possible status of a specific decision point status and corresponding workflow ID that triggers a specific workflow when the status is changed.
Permitted Initiative Types for Switching To
Here you define which new initiative types can be chosen for switching to from the current initiative type. The available initiative types permitted for switching to are dependent on the current initiative type and the current active decision point. Depending on the active source decision point, the system checks that for the new initiative type there are matches for each decision point up to and including this source decision point. You choose from a list of available successor initiative types.
Select Item of Initiative Type
Here you map items of initiative types to initiative types. This helps you to map items of initiative decision points to initiative decision points in the next step.
This is an optional activity.
Map Decision Points
Here you map the decision points of items of initiatives to the decision points of initiatives for the items of initiative types and initiative types mapped in the previous step. If you do this, the system links the mapped decision points of items of initiatives and initiatives when you assign an item to an initiative, or when you create a item under an initiative. If you do not do this, you have to map manually by choosing Manage Related Objects on the UI.
This is an optional activity.
Metrics Group
You define metrics groups that are specific for the initiative type. Each initiative can have different initiative types, for example, proposal initiative and development initiative. These initiative types may require different KPIs, which you can define here using portfolio-management-specific metrics groups.
You assign metrics groups to the initiative type (IPO) in the Object Type column, to group multiple metrics for a single initiative type.
Note: To define the metrics that are displayed in a specific dashboard of initiatives, see Define Fields for Dashboards.
Metrics
You define metrics specific for the initiative type.
You assign metrics to the initiative type and metrics group.
Metrics Value Types
You define metrics value types that are specific for the initiative type.
You assign metrics value types to the initiative type and metrics group.
