Tax Location Activities
- Define Country
Use standard ISO codes. - Assign Community
Only the EU (European Union) is supported. - Define Region
Regions are political subdivisions of a country. In a federal system "Regions" are the equivalent of "States". You only define states/regions in countries where these influence tax calculation, such as the USA, Canada, and Brazil. - Define Exempted Region
This activity defines any regions that are exempted from national tax regulations or have some special tax status. An exempted region may coincide with a regular political region, but could also be a municipality, tax free zone, etc. The exempted region can be evaluated in the tax event decision tree to derive the correct tax event for deliveries to exempted regions.
In some scenarios the Exempted Region Status influences tax determination. If required, maintain the status in this activity.
Example
For VAT purposes, the German island of Helgoland is an exempted region and has the exempted region status Extra-Community Territory.
Exempted Region Determination
The TTE derives the exempted regions from the business partner address data. Depending on how you wish to configure the TTE, choose one of the following methods for exemption region determination:
- Determine Exempted Region from Region
The exempted region is directly derived from the region.Example
Country: Finland
Region Description Exempted Region Description
001 Ahvenanmaa AL Aland Islands
When the TTE receives the value 001 for the parameter Region (contained in the business partner address data), the exempted region AL, Aland Islands is determined.
- Determine Exempted Region from Postal Code
The exempted region is directly derived from the postal code.
Example
Country: Germany
Postal Code Exempted Region Description
27498 Hel Helgoland
When the TTE receives the postal code 27498 from the business partner address data, the exempted region Helgoland is determined.
- Determine Exempted Region from Jurisdiction Code
The exempted region is directly derived from the jurisdiction code.Example
Country: USA
Region (State): Texas
Jurisdiction Code Exempted Region Description
4408504801 CAR CARROLLTON
When the TTE receives the jurisdiction code 4408504801 for the parameter jurisdiction code (contained in the business partner address data), the exempted region CAR, Carrollton is determined.
