Different number range intervals may be defined for different plantypes. In order to achieve this, a plantype (or several plantypes) can be associated to a number range number. This number range number refers on its turn to a number range interval.
Example
Plantype "Traditional IRA" maybe assigned to number range number 01, whereas plantypes "Roth IRA" and "Coverdell ESA" maybe assigned to number range number 02.
Number range number 01 may refer to a number range interval from 10000000 to 19999999 and is marked as being an internal number range interval .
Number range number 02 may refer to a number range interval from E0000000000 to R9999999999 and is marked as being an external number range interval .
The result is that when a user creates a traditional IRA, the system will assign a plan number to this newly created retirement plan. This plan number will be in the range from 10000000 to 19999999, starting from 10000000 and incrementing each time a new traditional IRA is created.
When a user creates a Roth or a Coverdell ESA, the system will prompt the user to enter a plan number. After the user entered a plan number, the system will check if it is in the range from E0000000000 to R9999999999 and if a plan with the same number does not already exist in the system.
