You must define a tax type for each country with which your company has excise tax related business relationships.

Generally in the context of Customer Relationship Management (CRM), the tax type is used to distinguish how the different taxes are handled, such as sales tax, withholding tax, or petroleum tax.

Excise duty and excise tax are used synonymously in this text.

In this activity, you preconfigure the settings for petroleum tax in CRM. These settings are then replicated as a subset in the corresponding table (TB070) in SAP CRM. Some parameters are set automatically in the background whenever you save your entries.

You define the tax type and its description at country level.

At a detailed level, you define the valid product tax groups that you want to use in the context of CRM. These have to be defined for the combination of:

  • Country (mandatory)
  • Region (optional) and
  • Tax type (mandatory)

This combination is used again as the criteria to map between excise tax groups (SAP Oil & Gas) and product tax groups (SAP CRM) in Customizing under Industry Solution Oil & Gas (Downstream) -> Integration with Customer Relationship Management -> Excise Tax -> Map Excise Tax Groups to Product Tax Groups.

Example

Requirements

All excise tax relevant countries you use must be defined in Customizing. To do this, choose General Settings -> Set countries -> Define countries

All excise tax relevant regions you use must be defined in Customizing. To do this, choose General Settings -> Set countries -> Insert regions

Standard settings

There is no standard set-up.

Only a subset of table TB070 (which exists in SAP CRM) is preconfigured in SAP Oil & Gas. The technical compatibility with this table in SAP CRM must be ensured for distributing the settings. As a result, the following fields are not visible in this activity but when you save your entries, they are automatically filled in the background:

  • The tax category is set to Petroleum tax
  • BP indicator is not set (this field is not used for excise tax handling in SAP CRM: you cannot use the Business Partner tax group in combination with excise tax for the same country and tax type combination)
  • Product indicator is set
  • The Sequence of possible taxes for each country field is empty (not used for excise tax handling in SAP CRM)

Recommendation

Perform this activity only if you want to use excise tax handling in a scenario integrating SAP CRM (4.0 or higher) with SAP Oil & Gas.

Tax type definition:

  • For excise tax handling only one tax type per country is needed. Due to technical compatibiliy reasons with the table TB070 in SAP CRM it is possible to maintain more than one tax type per country, but this is not recommended.
  • Use the same tax type and its description for different countries. Only deviate from this rule, if there is a significant difference in the way excise taxes are calculated and handled in these countries. For example using different conditon master data table for different countries is not a significant difference in that sense. A significant difference is for example sales tax and excise tax.

Product tax group assignment:

  • Carefully examine, how you want to map between excise tax groups (SAP Oil & Gas) and product tax groups (SAP CRM) under Industry Solution Oil & Gas (Downstream) -> Integration with Customer Relationship Management -> Excise Tax -> Map Excise Tax Groups to Product Tax Groups. For the same combination of country, region and tax type you have to define the product tax groups in this activity.
  • In general a region independant mapping between excise tax groups (SAP Oil & Gas) and product tax groups (SAP CRM) is recommended. Only deviate from this rule, if you have defined your excise tax rates in SAP Oil & Gas also at region or plant level.
  • Note that the product tax group maintained is not a language-dependent description.

Activities

  1. Choose Define Tax Types and Assignment of Procduct Tax Groups in the tree structure for Excise Tax.
