In this step, you define the dimensions of your matrices and the associated methods and parameters.
The dimension represents an axis within the matrix, that is, one of the guideline criteria, for example, length of service, compa-ratio, and so on.

Standard settings
The system contains sample dimensions that you can use or modify to meet your requirements.
Recommendation
Activities
- To define a dimension, enter the following:
- Dimension ID
- Text
- Validity period
- Unit of time or measurement, for example, years, points.
- Method (see Define Methods for Matrix Dimensions)
- Parameter (optional)
- Key date for calculation of employee attributes
Note
The parameter defines the type of calculation used in the method. The following parameters have been defined for the SAP methods:
Method: Age
Parameter:
No parameter.
Method: Compa-ratio
Parameter
No parameter.
The system calculates the compa-ratio according to the entries in the CRCAL, CRSAL and CRVAR fields in the Determine Calculation of Compa-Ratio step.
Method: Performance
You can use this method based on the Appraisal Systems or Object Setting and Appraisals component.
Note that you must implement the Objective Setting and Appraisals component additionally as an SAP Enterprise HR Extension.
In the different components the parameters have the following meaning:
- Appraisal Systems
- If you do not specify otherwise, the system uses the result from the Appraisals infotype (0025).
- If you enter the corresponding appraisal model ID, the system uses the result from the Appraisal Systems component.
- Objective Setting and Appraisals
- If you enter the object type and object ID of the appraisal template in concatenated form, the system determines the appraisal evaluation for the appraisal template.
- If you enter the object type and the object ID of the appraisal template, and the object type and object ID of a category group in the appraisal template, and the object type and object ID of an appraisal category in the category group in concatenated form, the system determines the appraisal evaluation for the appraisal category.
Method: Service
Parameter:
- If you do not specify otherwise, the system uses the standard length of service calculation.
- If you enter the evaluation rule key, the system uses this rule to evaluate time data.
For more information on the calculation of length of service, refer to the documentation under Calculation of Time Data.
