This activity enables you to determine the hierarchy of available function codes in the function tree on the left side of the screen. The second step within this activity enables you to hide existing function codes in the function tree, and to change the order of function codes on a hierarchical level.

Example

The employee theme category (type HOME) with function code name STANDARDFUNCTION, which is included in the standard system, contains the education and training function node (type NODE with the name TRAIN), which cannot be executed. The node has six lower-level executable functions (type REPO), such as bookings with history (with the name TRAIN_HIST).

One of the additional function codes that you defined in the Define Function Codes for Manager's Desktop step in the Define Function Codes activity (such as TRAIN_FC01 of type REPO) could now be added to the list of executable functions.

It is also possible to define a subnode (such as TRAIN_U_FC01 of type NODE) for the TRAIN node. The TRAIN_FC01 function code that has just been defined is then subordinate to the subnode. TRAIN_FC01 and TRAIN_U_FC01 would both have to be defined as function codes in the above step.

Activities

  1. The Define Function Code Hierarchies step enables you to determine the hierarchy in which the available function codes are displayed in the function tree on the left side of the screen. The roots of individual trees are displayed as theme categories on the initial screen (for example, employee and organization in Manager's Desktop).

The theme categories (function code type HOME) can be arranged in a hierarchy of any required depth. That is, a tree is defined for each category, and the tree's leaves (REPO, URL, FUNC, etc.) are the executable functions. Sub-categories (NODE) are used to group related functions together within a theme category, and do not trigger system activities.

    Enter the following settings:

    1. In the first column, enter the name of your specific application scenario (for example, MWB1 for the standard scenario in Manager's Desktop).
    2. The Higher-level FCode column contains the name of the theme categories (type HOME) or sub-categories, that is, the function codes that cannot be executed (type NODE).
    3. In the Function code column, enter the name of the lower-level function code. By entering numbers in the No. column, you can determine the order in which theme categories are arranged on the initial screen and/or the order in which sub-categories and executable functions are arranged on a hierarchical level within the function tree on the left side of the screen.
    4. The last column is reserved for enhancements. Do not enter data in this column.
  2. The Change Arrangement of Function Codes step enables you to hide existing function codes within the function tree on the left side of the screen in accordance with customer-specific requirements, or to change the order in which they appear on a hierarchical level.
    1. Within the table used in the Define Function Code Hierarchies step, function codes are always identified by their higher-level node and a number. The input help function for the Scenario, Function code (higher-level node) and Number fields always displays the descriptive text of the current function code in the first column; that is, of the function code whose order you wish to change on a hierarchical level. However, only its identifying features are transferred; that is, the scenario, higher-level function code and number.
    2. The Function code hidden indicator enables you to hide the function code in the function tree. If this function code is a theme category or sub-category, the system stops displaying the lower-level function codes too.
    3. The New number field enables you to determine the new order of the function code in question within the function tree.

Further notes

  • Within an application scenario, function codes are only displayed in the function tree if they appear in the table used in the Define Function Code Hierarchies step as theme category nodes. Entering a function code in the table used in the Enhance Function Codes step does not suffice if you want to create a function visible to the user.
  • Note that no more than eight function codes of the uppermost hierarchical level can be displayed as theme categories on the initial screen.
