share similar attributes. Ships object management system uses the ship type to identify a ship. You can also use ship types as a selection criterion to search for a ship. Therefore, it is mandatory that you assign each ship to a ship type.
Ships object management system uses ship types to enable a one-to-one relationship between a ship and an asset in the Collateral Management (CM). Therefore, in this activity, you need to assign the ship type to a corresponding asset type in the CM. This ship type and asset type assignment ensures that for every ship, an asset is created in the CM.

Standard settings
To enable a one-to-one mapping between a ship and an asset, Ships object management system delivers a standard setting. The methods in the implementation class CL_CMS_SHP call the corresponding asset APIs in the CM. These APIs perform similar functions that are executed for the ship, to create and maintain asset.
Activities
Determine the ship types that need to be maintained for your business requirements.
Identify the corresponding asset type to which you would assign the ship type. If no asset type exists for a ship type, you will need to define an asset type of your requirement in the Implementation Guide (IMG) activity Define Asset Types.
