In this IMG activity, you define keys for controlling the process of an asset. The process behavior for an asset is further customized based on this control key. Therefore, in the relevant IMG activity, you must assign each process control key to an asset type.
A process control key determines the status profile of the asset type, and the permitted activites for the assets of the asset type.
Note: You can assign one process control key to different asset types if they exhibit the same behavior.

Requirements
Standard settings
The standard system provides a control key for each asset category with the exception of Real Estate where separate control keys are defined for Land and other asset types of this category.
Also, a standard control key 0000000001 is delivered with basic control customizing and could be used for additional asset types that are created in the system.
Recommendation
Activities
Determine the control keys that you need for your business requirements. Each control key should uniquely identify a control mechanism for assets of an asset type.
Note: If different assets of an asset type do not exhibit the same behavior, you must create separate asset types and assign different control keys.
