In this step you define your own column and specify which properties it should have regarding form, content and function.
Activities
In the Define Your Own Column step, make the following settings:
In the Column field, enter a unique column name. You can save a heading for each column, which will appear as a column heading when the column is displayed.
The Width field defines the initial column width.
The Alignment field determines the alignment of the column contents.
If you specify an icon name, when the column is displayed in a tree, the icon name will appear next to the column heading. You can view icons and their icon names using the transaction ICON.
The Conversion Exit field is of relevance for columns whose contents cannot be sorted properly in the displayed form (for example dates). In that case, you must enter a conversion exit and make an entry in the fields Internal Length and Output Length. Internal Length is the length of the field before conversion; Output Length is the length of the field after conversion, both expressed in bytes. (Example: the internal format of a date is YYYYMMDD and has a length of 8. The output length of a format DD.MM.YYYY is 10).
In addition, you must enter a function module with a standard interface, that returns the column contents.
If a column is only used in the tree display, the column contents can include links, pushbuttons and checkboxes. In that case you must specify a function module that reacts to corresponding events (for example a link click).
The optional function module for refreshing the column contents is only meaningful if the column contents are buffered program-internally. In the case of a data change you would then call up the refresh function module, in order to trigger the program to invalidate the buffer.
In the OM_INTERFACE_TEMPLATES function group there are documented templates for the three above-mentioned function modules.
