If you want to search for a new object type in the object manager, you must carry out the following steps:

  • Create a new object type-specific search node (see step 1)
  • Insert the new search node into the existing search nodes in the search area of the object manager (see step 2)
  • Assign search tools to the the new search node (see step 3)

Activities

  1. In the Define Your Own Search Nodes for an Object Type step, make the following settings:
    • To define a new search node, you must enter a unique search node key, and you have the option of entering a name and an icon name. You can also enter an object type. This object type displays the type of objects that the search tools assigned to the search node in step 3 are searching for. If you enter an object type, you do not need to enter the name or the icon name. In that case, the system takes both those attributes from table T7780.

The 'Search Node Key' column contains customer-specific entries in the namespace 'y*' and 'z*'.

  1. In the Customize Search Area step, make the following settings:
    • To display a new search node in the search area of the object manager, you need to assign the search node key defined in step 1 to the appropriate object manager scenario. You also need to enter the position the new search node should take among the existing search nodes in the scenario.
    • If the Set/Get parameter OM_OBJM_SCEN_DISPLAY is set, you can see in the search area which object manager scenario is active in an instance of the object manager.
Definition of the following attributes is optional:
    • Name: This entry overwrites a definition of the search node selected in step 1 or a name taken from table T7780.
    • Column Group: This entry specifies the number of results columns to be displayed in the selection area after a search. You can override this entry with search tool-specific entries in step 3.
    • Column Type: This entry specifies which search result column headings should be displayed above which columns in the selection area.
    • Note:
If the OM_ARRAYTYPE_DISPLAY parameter is set, you can find out which column group is currently being displayed in a structural or list display, and which columns are assigned to that column group, by selecting the Technical Info pushbutton in the column configuration dialog box.
  2. In the Assign Search Tools to Your Own Search Node step, make the following settings:
    • To assign a search tool to a search node, you must specify the required search tool for the scenario and node key entered in step 2. Examples of suitable search tools are, for example, Search Term, which searches for objects by name, and Structural Search, which returns objects according to the evaluation path specified in the table T77OS.
    • In addition, you must enter an Interaction Tool. It is a good idea to choose the same interaction tool that is assigned to the other search tools in the scenario.
    • The value entered in the Position field specifies the sequence of the search tools under the search node.
    • Definition of the following attributes is optional:
    • Name: This entry overwrites the name entered in the search tool definition.
    • Standard Search Tool: If a search tool is designated a standard search tool, the corresponding search node becomes a link. If you click on this search node, a search is then started with the respective search tool. You can only have one standard search tool for each search node. For standard search tools, you can define whether they are only started when you click on the search node, or whether they are also displayed under the search node.
    • Do Not Display Separately: If this indicator is set, the search tool designated as the standard search tool is not displayed separately under the search node (which in this case is itself a link to the corresponding search).
    • Column Group: This entry determines which columns of results are displayed in the selection area after a search. If, in step 2, you specified a column group when you assigned the search node to a scenario, you can override it here for the specific search tool.
    • Heading Type: This entry determines which column headings for the results are displayed above which columns in the selection area. If you specified a heading type in step 2 when you assigned the search node to a scenario, you can override it here for the specific search tool.
