In costing rule maintenance for transaction-independent volume costing, the procedures for calculating the opportunity contribution, the NIM contribution, and the currency translation contribution are also maintained.

Example

Requirements

You need the appropriate yield curve types to maintain this costing rule ( "Define Yield Curve Type")

Activities

  1. "Identification of Costing Rule"

Every costing rule is identified with a name (up to 8 characters).

    • You create a new costing rule with Create.
    • You duplicate an existing costing rule with Copy template, save it under a different name, and then make changes to this copy (for example, assigning it to another yield curve type).
    • You have to enter a short description of every costing rule.
    • If you enter a particular costing rule and press Print, you can view the corresponding parameter settings of the fixed procedures.
    • You get a list of the following for each costing rule:
      - Parameter settings
      - Weighting of the opportunity interest rates

  1. "General Settings"
    1. Yield curve type under price parameters
    2. You have to choose the yield curve structure underlying the costing in order to calculate the opportunity contribution, the NPV margin on the basis of market rates, or the market value of own-account trading.
To do this, you choose a yield curve which you defined in the activity Define Yield Curve Type .
    3. Asset/Liability
    4. Here you set whether the costing rule relates to an asset or liability bank product.
This defines the characteristic value, if you choose "Asset/liability" from the default catalog as a characteristic to be valuated in Bank Profitability Analysis.
    5. NIM contribution
    6. Here you specify whether and how the NIM contribution will be calculated for the reporting period.
If you choose "Interest contribution/opportunity contribution", the net interest margin contribution (NIMC) will be calculated as the difference between the interest contribution (interest revenue or expense of the customer transaction) and the opportunity contribution (interest revenue or expense of the alternative transaction). In this case, the calculation of the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution is called up as described below.
If you choose "fixed margin", the NIMC is calculated as the product of the margin in percent and the average volume. The interest and opportunity contribution are not determined.
    7. Interest contributions
    8. You need to maintain this indicator if you want the system to calculate the NIMC as the difference between the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution.
This determines whether the interest contribution is calculated. The interest contribution is calculated on the basis of the derived conditions list (see also 'Characteristic derivation for volume costing".
    9. Average customer interest rate
    10. Only maintain this indicator if you want the system to calculate NIMC as the difference between the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution, and to determine the interest amount on the basis of average volume. Here you define whether the average customer interest rate is transferred using an SAP Banking fixed procedure, or if it is to be calculated using one of your own procedures. SAP Banking calculates the interest rate on a daily-weighting basis from the financial conditions. Transfer of average customer interest rate cannot be used in Planning.
    11. Opportunity contribution
    12. You only maintain this indicator if you want the system to calculate the NIMC as the difference between the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution.
This determines whether and how the opportunity contribution is calculated.
The opportunity contribution is the (costing-based) interest revenue or expense of the alternative transaction on the market in the transaction currency.
    13. Opportunity interest (rate)
    14. Only maintain this indicator if you want the system to calculate the NIMC as the difference between the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution.
Here you determine how the alternative interest rate will be assigned. The interest rates are read from the yield curves assigned in the costing rule (in the case of planning, from the yield curve type in the derived scenarios).
    15. Interpolation of OI
    16. Only maintain this indicator if you want the system to calculate the NIMC as the difference between the interest contribution and the opportunity contribution, and if you want to use a "fixed" value from the interest rate table as the opportunity interest rate.
Here you determine how the "fixed" opportunity interest rate will be determined from the interest rate table.
    17. Currency translation contribution (periodic)
    18. Here you determine how (or whether) the currency translation contribution is determined.
The currency translation contribution is determined by the system from the difference between the opportunity contribution according to the yield curve structure of the market rates in the transaction currency and in the local currency. This assumes that interest rates are stored for both currencies. The opportunity contribution for the local currency is calculated according to the settings in the field "Opportunity contribution".
If the opportunity contribution is transferred, the system can not calculate the currency translation contribution. In fact, the currency translation contribution can only be calculated in the context of volume costing.
