In this step you define bank products.
Recommendation
The bank product name you use should reflect the standard term used in your bank. Names which are used for purely marketing purposes are subsets of a product, rather than products in their own right. A bank product is identified uniquely by a product key.
Requirements
You must be in possession of a product catalog that is valid for your bank.
Activities
- Assign the product a unique alphanumeric ID in the Product field and a name in the Bank product field (New entries).
- Save your entries.
Additional Information
- Content of the product catalog
The product catalog should reflect all the products offered by your bank. In particular, the product catalog should contain products that are relevant for controlling and sales evaluations. The product catalog must be officially approved so that it is valid throughout the bank. It must be valid for a long period in time and should only be changed when a new bank product is added or a new product area is created. Views based on marketing strategies, organizational units or customer groups represent additional, constantly changing aspects, which do not reflect product characteristics as such, and should not be directly linked to the product.
- Structure of the product catalog
You can structure the product catalog in such a way that the products are divided into product groups and product sub-groups. These hierarchy levels, which may be individually defined, can reflect areas of operation within the bank (for example, asset-side transactions, liabilities-side transactions, service transactions). The bank product represents the lowest hierarchy level in the product catalog.
- Function of the product and the product catalog
Each single transaction, being the smallest costing unit, is assigned a costing rule via the bank product. As a characteristic, the bank product is also the standard evaluation dimension (customer/product/organizational unit).
The various sub-processes, which contribute to the definition of a bank product, do not represent stand-alone products.
For costing purposes, bank products can be broken down into product variants (for example, the bank product "Loan" could be broken down into the variants "Fixed-rate loan" and "Variable-rate loan"). Via the product variant, you can also assign a bank product various costing rules. See "Product assignment".
