A calculation of averages generally requires a monetary amount and a number of days. For instance, if you want to calculate the average of payments over the last six months for an employee, you must add all the amounts that are considered as payments and divide the total amount by the number of days in the last six months.

To do this calculation using the standard SAP R/3 system, you need to make a number of settings that are described below. You can make these settings through the Implementation Guide activities mentioned for each case.

Bear in mind that the instructions below are only a practical example. The SAP standard functionality for averages offers more possibilities than the ones indicated in this section. To display them, SAP recommends reviewing all the activities included in the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages.

Activities

  1. First, you need to define the amounts and the days to be used in the calculation of the average. In the SAP payroll, this means that you have to create wage types that contain those amounts and those days (if they had not been created previously), with the appropriate absence valuation settings. You can do this using the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Absences -> Absence valuation -> Form counting class for absence valuation.
  2. You must then cumulate these wage types in technical wage types or bases for calculating average values, which in turn will be used in the calculation of the average. This is done in the IMG activity Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages -> Form basis for calculating average values -> Assign primary wage types to basis for calculating average values. In this step you should also specify the field of the wage types you want to cumulate (Amount, Number or Amount per Unit).
  3. In our example, we use the period parameter TKSOLL (planned work in calendar days) for cumulation in the basis for average calculation for active days. You can do this through the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages -> Form basis for calculating average values -> Assign partial period parameters to bases for calculating average values.
  4. After these activities, you must create a rule for indicating which bases for calculating average values are to be used for each average value and how. In our example, a rule could be created to indicate which basis will be used for the number of days and which basis will be used for the amount. For each case, you must specify the sign that will be used for the basis for calculating average values in the calculation (for example, if the absence days must be subtracted from the number of days to be used, you must use a different basis for the absence days and indicate that this basis will be used with a minus sign. You can do this through the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages -> Create rules for calculating average values -> Create cumulation rules for bases for calculating average values.
  5. You must then specify an average value final processing rule, which in turn refers to a payroll rule that you can find in payroll schema MX00. You can do this through the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages -> Create calculation rules for averages -> Create final processing rules for average values.
  6. The next step is to create a rule that provides an overview of the whole process. You can do this in the Implementation Guide, section Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Average values -> Create average value calculation rules.
  7. Finally, you must specify which wage type will contain this average, and assign to it the "overview" rule created in the previous step. You can do this in the Payroll Mexico -> Time wage type valuation -> Averages -> Assign valuation of averages to a primary wage type section of the Implementation Guide.
