Use

In this IMG activity, you can define portfolio item categories.

A portfolio item category defines an area of activity such as a line of business. Examples of portfolio item categories in pharmaceutical R&D are oncology, dermatology, and cardiology.

You can either accept the portfolio item categories delivered by SAP or create new ones.

For each portfolio item category, you can define the following:

  • Portfolio item subcategory

    This is a subunit of a portfolio item category.

    For example for Pharmaceutical R&D the following settings can be defined:

    • Portfolio item category = oncology
    • Portfolio item subcategory = chemotherapy
  • Portfolio item grouping

    This is a way to group portfolio items. You can use the portfolio item group to flag portfolio items as test items.

  • Technology type

    This is a way to group portfolio items.

    Examples of technology type in a hardware R&D organization would be base, key, pacing, and embryonic.

Activities

To create a portfolio item category:

  1. Choose New Entries.
  2. Enter values for Category, Category Text and Specific Name for "Category".

To enter classifications for a portfolio item category, select a portfolio item category and enter settings for the following:

Subcategory

  1. Double-click Subcategory.
  2. Enter values for Subcategory and Subcategory Text.

Portfolio Item Group

  1. Double-click Portfolio Item Group.
  2. Enter values for Group and Group Text.
  3. To define if a portfolio item group has to be inactive for a specific activity (portfolio reporting, capacity reporting), set the appropriate indicator.

Technology Type

  1. Double-click Technology Type.
  2. Enter values for Technology Type and Technology Type Text.
