In this step, you review and amend the list of tax treaty countries that will be used in your system, which will partially determine the taxation status of non-citizens that may be present there.
The list of countries contained in this view is used in the Treaty country field of Infotype 0556 (Tax treaty). If a person in your system is a citizen of one of the countries in this list, and if that person meets certain taxation criteria in the Tax treaty infotype, then that person may qualify to attain the taxation status of non-resident alien via the Substantial Presence Test.
Example
Typical tax treaty countries that may be found in this table include:
Cty Name Country
AU Australia AS
BR Brazil BR
CH Switzerland SZ
CN China CH
TW Taiwan TW
UA Ukraine UP
Note
The two-letter country codes at left correspond to the codes used throughout the standard SAP system; those at right correspond to the codes defined by the Internal Revenue Service.
For some countries, such as Brazil and Taiwan, identical two-letter codes may be used in both columns. For other countries, such as Ukraine or Australia, the codes may differ. Moreover, a single code, such as CH, may refer to two different countries, depending upon the convention used.
Prerequisites
You must possess the correct two-letter IRS code for each country to be added to the tax treaty list. If you do not possess the correct code for a given country, the system will not process tax treaty data for persons from that country who may be present in your system.
