In order for the Salary Packaging functionality to calculate the taxable amount of the travel allowance in South Africa, the system must have the most recent rates per kilometer as issued by SARS.

Standard settings

The travel allowance information has been maintained in the system for the tax year 1999. You must maintain the travel allowance table for each subsequent tax year. Also, ensure that this table is always kept up to date.

Activities

In this step, maintain (per tax year) the following information according to SARS specifications in Schedule A (in the Travel Allowance section) in the IRP 10 tax guidelines:

  • Upper limit value of the vehicle
  • Fixed cost
  • Fuel cost
  • Maintenance cost

Further notes

This step is only relevant for South Africa.
