Upon registering with the Receiver of Revenue (SARS), you receive PAYE tax reference number(s). This number allows you to deduct taxes from your employees according to the PAYE tax specifications as stated in the South African Income Tax Act.
In the SAP system, a PAYE reference number represents a corresponding personnel area/Sub-area or Employee Group/Sub-group.
Note:
You cannot use payroll area in this step.
Activities
Using Feature WWTRN, you assign your PAYE reference numbers to your personnel areas/subareas. To do so, copy or change the example in the system.
Standard settings
The Cape to Cairo Trailer Company (CCT) has a head office in Sandton (personnel area ZA01). The head office consists of two main departments:
- Administration (personnel subarea 0001)
- Sales (personnel subarea 0002)
As registered at SARS, the following PAYE reference numbers have been assigned to the CCT personnel subareas:
- 9999999999 - Administration (personnel subarea 0001)
- 5555555555 - Sales (personnel subarea 0002)
Further notes
The default can also make a decision on the PAYE reference number solely on the personnel area. At the CCT, default PAYE reference for personnel area is 999999999.
The system performs a check to ensure that the PAYE reference number entered is a valid number (according to SARS).
