Lump-sum payments, such as redundancy payments, pay in lieu of notice and outstanding leave entitlements on termination, are subject to different tax percentages that are set by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).
In the SAP System, every effort is made to guarantee the legal compliance of the tax percentages applied to lump-sum payments. However, as the laws affecting taxation change, you must verify and ensure compliance by checking, and if necessary changing, the tax percentages.
In this step, you check that the tax percentages in the standard system comply with the percentages currently stipulated by the ATO.
Example
Requirements
The tax percentages should only be changed if the legislation changes.
Standard settings
The standard system contains the tax percentages currently applied to lump-sum payments by the ATO. The percentages are set in the following constants:
LMPAT - Tax on lump-sum A payments
LMPB5 - Percentage of lump-sum B payments to be taxed
LMPBT - Tax on lump-sum B payments
LMPC2 - Tax on lump-sum C payments
LMPCT - Tax on lump-sum C payments
Recommendation
Activities
Check that the tax percentages entered against each constant reflect the current percentages set by the ATO.
If necessary, change the lump-sum tax values as follows:
Flag the appropriate entry (for example, LMPAT).
