The valuation of absences occurs using the valuation class. The assignment of an absence to a valuation class normally applies for the entire period of absence. However, there are absences which are evaluated differently at different times. This means that different valuation classes must be used.
Example
The absence type Illness with medical certificate is assigned to the valuation class Illness. Since payment changes after a certain time of sickness, a division of the superior valuation class Sickness into the valuation class Paid absence is to be carried out for the period of continued pay and into the valuation class Unpaid absences for the period outside of continued pay. The valuation classes resulting from this division are also referred to as derived valuation classes.

The derived valuation classes must have been entered in the chapter Determining valuation classes.
