Paid absences are remunerated according to the hypothetical earning principle. If this is not possible, the principle of averages is applied. This principle is also applied in the case of additional special payments.
You can carry out average calculations unconditionally, or in line with your specific requirements.
Each average calculation is defined by various factors, including the number of periods and the required wage types. In these steps, you specify which regulations are required.
For a valuation according to the principle of averages, you must specify the following:
- Number of periods: fixed or variable observation period with specified upper and lower limits?
- Which absence types are remunerated with average pay?
- Which wage types are to be included in an average value?
- Under what conditions is a period relevant for the valuation of averages?
Minimum attendance days, absences without full remuneration?
- What are the criteria for forming the average rate?
Amounts method with or without dynamic revaluation, or units method with current hourly rates?
Standard settings
The standard system contains several model entries. The average value calculation rules 1 to 4 use amounts from three previous periods.
- Average Value Calculation Rule 1: Average payments subject to tax.
- Average Value Calculation Rule 2: Tax-exempt share according to § 68 (2) of the Income Tax Law [EStG].
- Average Value Calculation Rule 3: Tax-exempt share according to § 68 (1/6) EStG
- Average Value Calculation Rule 4: Total average payments.
The relevance test only allows months with 30 SI days. In the final processing, the average values are divided by the number of relevant months, and, depending on the person subgroup, are also divided by:
- Average monthly hours in the case of monthly wage earners.
- Average number of workdays in the case of salaried employees.
