Use

In this IMG activity, you can make specific settings towards improving performance for workflow processing since many dialog processes are utilized during workflow generation. If the settings are not changed, receivers of events (such as workflows) are started directly in the standard version. This may lead to a high system load if the number of events is large. To avoid this, events for defined event linkages can be written into the event queue.

For background information on event queue administration, see the SAP Library for the SAP Business Workflow under Reference Documentation -> Workflow System Administration -> Event Manager Administration.

Independently of these settings, we recommend generating a large amount of workflows overnight.

Activities

Check the settings in the tab pages:

  1. In the Overview tab page, the current settings for the event queue are summarized. Under Key Figures in the same tab page, the system displays how many events can be processed every hour on the basis of the settings in the Background Job tab page.
  2. In the Basic Data tab page, you enter a user as the administrator. Furthermore, you enter a value for Receiver Error Feedback; SAP recommends selecting the Deactivation of Linkage option from the dropdown list.
  3. In the Activation tab page, the Switch on event queue indicator must be set. You should choose Event Linkages to check whether you activate the event queue for the BOR object types and events listed below. Activating the event queue is advisable if many workflows are generated. In the case of few workflows, processing is quicker if you do not activate the event queue. You should check activation for the following object types:

Object Type    Event    Receiver Type

FOPC_ACTIO    SCHEDULED    WS75100024

FOPC_CASEA    CREATED    WS75100018

FOPC_CASES    CREATED    WS75100023

FOPC_CASET    CREATED    WS75100022

FOPC_SCHL    CREATED    WS75100011

FOPC_SCHL    CREATED_ORGUNIT    WS75100012

We recommend activating the event queue at least for the object types FOPC_CASEA and FOPC_CASET because this is where a large number of workflows are generated.

  1. In the Background Job tab, you should adjust the settings for Number of events per read access and Time interval between two read accesses to suit your system capacity. It is recommended to enter about 12 read accesses per minute. This means that 12 workflows are sent per minute for each work process (if there are 10 work processes, 120 workflows are sent per minute). When used in the context of the outbound queue in the IMG activity Register Workflow System in qRFC Monitor, individual workflows for which the event queue is not activated are also sent with the others. Hence, if an additional single workflow needs to be sent during the mass generation of workflows, the workflow is processed after one minute as opposed to at the end of mass processing.
By choosing Display Background Job, you can monitor the logs of the executed jobs.
  2. In the Event delivery tab page, SAP recommends retaining the following default settings:
    • Processing of events: Sequential
    • Start of receivers: Asynchronous
  3. From the same tab page, you should make the settings for the server groups by choosing the Server Group Definition pushbutton. Pay particular attention to the setting made for the parameter Minimum Number of Free WPs: The smaller the value you specify, the greater the speed with which the events are processed.
