Use

You use this IMG activity if you experience performance problems when displaying print reports with large volumes of data. In this IMG activity, you specify that print reports are downloaded from the system using a service specific to MIC instead of the general download service delivered with the Knowledge Provider (KPro). With the alternative, MIC-specific service, the data can be downloaded in compressed form. The alternative service is quicker at downloading print reports that have attained a certain data volume. This data volume threshold depends on your infrastructure. There is therefore no general rule concerning the data volume.

Requirements

To apply data compression, the use of HTTP/1.1 needs to be activated on the SAP Server as well as in the settings of the users Web browser.

Standard settings

Activities

  1. Make an entry for the document class Document for Report - Contents (FOPC_REA_P) and set the indicator for activating the alternative download.
  2. We recommend leaving the MIME Type field empty. In this way, the MIME type entered in KPro for a document is used to download that document. However, it may be necessary to specify a particular MIME type in this field if you encounter problems with a given document type.
  3. In the File Name field, you can enter a name for the downloaded file. We recommend leaving this field empty. In this way, the name stored in KPro is applied (generated for print documents).

You can also use the following variables:

    • :&name stands for the name up to the dot before the file name enhancement
    • :&ext stands for the enhancements, such as .pdf

The variables are replaced by the respective file name component that is stored in KPro.

      Examples

    • :ext The complete file name from KPro is displayed. In other words, this entry has the same effect as leaving the field empty.
    • :&name.pdf All files with the file name enhancement .pdf are downloaded, independently of the enhancement stored in KPro. The file name up until the enhancement is read from KPro.
    • Report:&ext The name Report that you specified is used instead of the generated file name from KPro. The enhancement is taken from KPro.
  4. Set the Secure Download indicator. In this way, a download ticket (that is, a GUID for the user that is valid for just two hours) is generated for each file. Consequently, the download URL is only valid for two hours, which means that, once the two hours have elapsed, the document is protected against unauthorized access via the download URL.

If you use the secure download, the table containing the download tickets (table FOPC_DOC_TICKETS) has to be cleared regularly. You do this by scheduling the program FOPC_DOCUMENTS_TICKET_CLEANER to occur regularly. Depending on the number of users using the print reports, the regularity can range from several times per day to weekly.

  5. If the file needs to be downloaded in compressed form (as a GZIP, for example), set the Compression indicator. In the Compression from field, you can specify the file size threshold that determines which files are compressed. If you do not enter a value, selecting this indicator causes all files to be compressed.

When users use Microsoft Internet Explorer to access MIC, they may encounter problems downloading compressed files. For more information, see SAP note 853687.
