Use
In this IMG activity you determine whether externally referred patients should be created in i.s.h.med with patient master data or with provisional patient master data (provisional patients).
When incoming queries are received (clinical order/appointment/documents) from external sources, a suitable assignment to patients in i.s.h.med is required.
On one hand, this assignment should satisfy data protection requirements, on the other hand, it should be open for future patient assignment procedures (Master Patient Index PMI, Patient Identifier Cross Referencing PIX, #).
Furthermore, it should also be possible for the external facility to search for the entities it has initiated, and to find patients it has referred.
Different installations may have different requirements concerning the possibility in i.s.h.med of managing actual patients and provisional patients. In some scenarios it will be an advantage to initially create patients referred from external facilities as provisional patients, until they actually arrive for admission, when they can then be converted into patients with patient master data. In other scenarios creation of patients with patient master data will be desired (e.g. when an intramural PMI exists).
Requirements
Standard settings
The cross-institutional system parameter N1CXPAT (Connectivity: Control External Patient Creation) can have the following values:
- P: Patients created externally are entered in i.s.h.med as provisional patients (table NPAP); standard value
- A: Patients created externally are entered in i.s.h.med as patients with patient master data (table NPAT)
Note:
If you do not maintain this system parameter, the system will always enter externally created patients as provisional patients.
