Use

In this Customizing activity, you can define number range intervals for loss events. After defining the number range intervals, you can assign the intervals to loss event types using the Define Loss Event Types and Workflow Configuration Customizing activity.

When you create a new loss event, the system automatically assigns an identifier from the number range interval for the type of loss event you are creating (with the current value incremented by one).

Note: You cannot create a loss event without specifying the type, nor can you define a loss event type without specifying a corresponding number range interval.

Requirements

Standard settings

Activities

To display existing number range intervals:

  • Choose the Display Intervals pushbutton. The Display Number Range Intervals screen appears.

To add a number range interval:

  1. Choose the Change Intervals pushbutton. The Maintain Number Range Intervals screen appears.
  2. Choose the Insert interval button. The Insert Interval dialog appears.
  3. In the No. column, enter a two-character alpha-numeric identifier. This is the identifier for the number range.
  4. In the From number column, enter a numeric value. Alternatively, you can select a proposed number range using the pop-up dialog.
  5. In the To number column, enter a numeric value.
  6. Choose the Insert pushbutton to add the new number range interval. Alternatively, choose the Cancel pushbutton to dismiss the dialog without creating the new interval.
  7. Choose the Save pushbutton.

To change the current number for a number range:

  1. Choose the Change status pushbutton. The Maintain Number Range Intervals screen appears.
  2. In the Current number column, enter a new value for the appropriate number range. You might want to do this, for example, if you deleted one or more loss events, and need to reset the current number that you want the system to use for a new loss event.
  3. Choose the Save pushbutton.

To delete a number range interval:

  1. Choose the Change Intervals pushbutton. The Maintain Number Range Intervals screen appears.
  2. Select the interval you want to delete, and choose the Delete interval button. The selected number range interval is deleted.
  3. Choose the Save pushbutton.

Example

Assume managing the following types of loss events:

  • Losses
  • Grouped Losses
  • External Losses

The corresponding requirements are as follows:

  • Losses must be numbered in a strict sequence one by one
  • Grouped Losses and External Losses should be identified by their identifiers

For example, you can define the following number range intervals (one for each type):

  • Loses: 100000000000000001 to 19999999999999
  • Grouped Losses: 300000000000000001 to 39999999999999
  • External Losses: 900000000000000001 to 99999999999999

Using this configuration, loss events identifiers are numbered as following:

  • Losses start from 1
  • Grouped Losses start from 3
  • External Losses start from 9
