Use

SAP delivers more than 150 tasks for the Process Control workflow. You can customize the delivered task names to meet your company's requirements. For example, you can change "Perform Central Design Assessment" to "Assess Design of Control."

You can also include SAP delivered parameters in the task name to provide more information to the user. For example, you can include the name of the R&D (Research and Development) organization in the task name by inserting the parameter as a variant in the task name: "Assess Design of Control: 1:&1." This displays as "Assess Design of Control: 1:R&D."

A task is comprised of the following elements:

  • Task Name
This is the displayed name of the task.
  • Task Business Object
This is the mapping relationship between the task and the workflow business object.
  • Task Parameters
These are additional attributes available for each task that you can add to the task name, such as orgunit name, and so on.
  • Task Position on the task list
Each task occupies a specific position in the task list. The position of the task does not change. You need to know the task position customize the task name.

Of these elements, you can only customize the task name by configuring the task, at a given position, to use the new text for the task name.

PROCESS

To customize the task names, you must do the following:

  1. Use the Customizing activity Maintain Custom Task Names to display the Task List, and determine the position of the task in the list, and determine the available parameters.

To determine the position of the task in the list:

Open the Customizing activity Maintain Custom Task Names .

The Inbox Task screen appears. The Inbox Task table displays all the tasks.

The table displays the following information for the tasks: description and position.

    To determine the available parameters:

  1. Open the Customizing activity Maintain Custom Task Names.
  2. In the Inbox Task table, navigate to the relevant task.
  3. Select the task, and in the left-hand navigation pane, double-click Task Business Object.
The Task Business Object screen appears and displays the single business object associated with the task.
  4. Select the task, and in the left-hand navigation pane, double-click Task Parameters.
The Task Parameters table displays the available parameters, and its number.

  1. Use the Customizing activity Maintain Text for Custom Task Names to create the message classes and maintain the text for the custom task names. We maintain the text in the message class because message classes allow us to include parameters as variants, such as &1, &2, and so on.
  2. Use the Customizing activity Maintain Custom Task Names to configure the tasks to use the new task names.

Recommendation

We recommend you review the delivered task names to become familiar with the required format and available parameters before creating custom task names. You can view the delivered task names in the Customizing activity Maintain Custom Task Names > Default Task Name.
