Use
In this IMG activity, you can set the buffer VALID_TIME. This setting defines the retention period of information in the free buffer space as follows:
- Initial value (' '): Retention period of three hours
- Value 0: No buffering
- All other entries describe the buffer retention time in seconds.
The system uses a cross-application server buffer to determine the availability of free space in module booking, which speeds up the module booking process. The system therefore does not have to access the database to determine the overall capacity and occupied space during the buffer retention period.
Warning
When the buffer is activated, which means that VALID_TIME is not 0, any changes in the overall capacity of a module or an event package do not become effective immediately. We therefore recommend that you deactivate buffering in test systems (value 0). It may also be better to deactivate buffering in the production system outside of booking periods, for example when you define the capacities of modules and create event packages.
If you expect intensive booking activity, we recommend that you activate buffering and set a suitable buffering duration. A suitable duration is one which is based on the relevant booking periods. When bookings are made during the day and saved to the database at night, a suitable buffering period could, for example, be one day.

In the SAP standard system, the value for VALID_TIME is 0.
