In this activity, you set up the module group variants. A module group variant can be assigned to a program of study and is used when you enter the academic specializations for a student.
If the organizational unit is not assigned directly to the student, you can specify whether it should be derived from the program or from a module group, for example when you run a report.
Example
Your university offers programs in which students can choose either one major (MA) and one minor (MI), or one major and two minors. In the first option the organizational unit should be derived from the program and in the second option from a module group, if the organizational unit is not assigned directly to the student.
To map this in the system, you make the following settings:

Activities
- Choose New entries.
- In the field Gr.variant, enter a three-digit numeric key for each module group variant you require.
- In the field Module group variant, enter a descriptive text for each entry.
- In the field Rule for deriving org.unit, assign a derivation rule to each module group variant.
- When you have made all the required entries, choose Save.
