In this activity, you set up the types of credits used by your university. You also define the factors for conversion between different credit types. You use the conversion factor, for example, to convert the credits that students have earned at other universities to the credit type used at your institution.
Example
Your university assigns credits of the type CQ.
A student who has completed academic work at another university (= external organization) transfers to your university and seeks credit for this academic work. This external organization uses the credit type CS.
You want to transfer the credits the student earned at the external organization. Before you can transfer credits, the system must convert the credits earned at the external organization to the credit type of your university.
You create the credit types CQ and CS.
One CQ at your university corresponds to two CS at the external organization.
You define the following conversion factors:
Source credit type Target credit type Conversion factor
CQ CS 2
CS CQ 0.5
Credits are converted using the following formula:
Source credit type * Conversion factor = Target credit type
Requirements
You have defined the credit types as a nondimensional unit of measurement in Customizing under General Settings -> Check Units of Measurement.
Take into account the special features of this activity:
- On the initial screen for measurement unit maintenance, choose Units of measurement; the value in the field to the right of this button must be (no dimensions).
- Units of measurement are language-dependent. If you log on in a language that differs from the one in which the units of measurement are maintained, the units of measurement must first be translated. To translate the units of measurement, choose Goto -> Translation -> Units of measurement. You must maintain both the business and technical key for each language.
