In this IMG activity, you define the method and format you want to use for student number assignment.
When you create a new student master data record by choosing Campus Management -> Student Administration -> Master Data -> Create (transaction PIQSTC) from the SAP menu, you can choose between two different methods of student number assignment:
- Internal number assignment
The system assigns the student numbers.
- External number assignment
The user assigns the student numbers.
You can also use both methods concurrently. The system then assigns the student number internally if the user does not specify one.
If you want to use alphanumeric student numbers or numeric student numbers with less than 12 digits, you must make the required format settings.

Requirements
You need to implement the business add-in for assignment and checking of student numbers in the following cases:
- You want to use numeric student numbers which must comply with special rules and have a check digit, for instance.
- You want to use alphanumeric student numbers.
Standard settings
The standard system uses 12-digit numeric student numbers.
Recommendation
We recommend you use internal number assignment.
Student numbers do not need to be mnemonic because the search help function enables you to choose student master records on the basis of various criteria. This also means that you do not have to worry about retaining the mnemonic attributes of numbers when you add new programs of study or change the names of existing ones.
Activities
Enter the value that corresponds to the method you have chosen in the CAMPU - STNMT entry:
- Internal number assignment: I
- External number assignment: E
- External and internal number assignment: EI
Enter the value for the student number format in the CAMPU - STNAL entry:
- Numeric student number: N
- Enter the number of required digits in the CAMPU - STNLE entry
- Alphanumeric student number: A
