Use
In this IMG activity, you create applications for using service classes for key figure transformations. An application can be a logical source or a logical target of a transformation.
The logical name of the application reflects the various BI content objects, such as DataSources, InfoSources, or InfoProviders that it contains.
The calculation of a key figure must be unique for each source and target application.

You need to create new applications only if you want to implement new service classes (that are intended for applications that are not supplied).
Example
03-Inventory Management is a typical example of an application that is used as the source of a transformation.
SL Stock Ledger Analytics is a typical example of an application that is used as the target of a transformation.
