Use

In this step, you define family member groupings and determine how family members are allocated to these groupings.

You can use family member groupings to allow only certain types of family member with certain characteristics to be beneficiaries or dependents in a plan. You do this by assigning family member groupings to subtypes of the Family/Related Person infotype (0021) in the steps Define Dependent Eligibility Rules and Define Beneficiary Eligibility Rules . You then assign these rules to the appropriate plans by means of a dependent/beneficiary eligibility variant in the step Assign Eligibility Rule Variant to Plan.

You determine how employees are allocated to family member groupings using the feature RLPGR.

To display information on the structure and use of the feature, choose Goto -> Documentation from within the decision tree.

Example: Dependent eligibility based on tax status

Only non-taxable domestic partners and their children are permitted to enroll in a health plan (in addition to other types of family member).

The following family member groupings are set up:

  • NONT - Non-taxable family members
  • TAXA - Taxable family members

In the dependent eligiblity rule, the grouping NONT is assigned to the subtypes 13 and 14 of the Family/Related Person infotype (0021). This eligibility rule is then assigned to the appropriate health plans by means of the dependent eligibility variant. During enrollment, non-taxable domestic partners and their children are automatically sorted into the NONT grouping (on the basis of the setting for the Non-taxable indicator on the Family/Related Person infotype(0021) and the setup of the feature for the family member grouping) and are eligible to participate in the plan.

Example (for Japan)

Employees who earn less than 1,000,000 Yen are not permitted to enroll any dependents in the Standard Health plan.

The following family member groupings are set up:

  • <1MY - dependents of employees earning less than 1,000,000 Yen
  • >1MY - dependents of employees earning more than 1,000,000 Yen

In the dependent eligiblity rule, the family member grouping >1MY is assigned to all the subtypes of the Family/Related Person infotype (0021) that are specified as being potentially eligible. This eligibility rule is then assigned to the Standard Health Plan by means of the dependent eligibility variant. During enrollment, dependents of employees earning more than 1,000,000 Yen are automatically sorted into the >1MY grouping and are eligible to participate in the plan.

Example (for North America)

Your employees receive health care according to the zip code area in which they live. If an employee's dependents live in a different zip code area, they are not permitted to be dependents on the employee's health plan.

The following family member groupings are set up:

  • ZIP1 - <44500
  • ZIP2 - 44500 to 44600
  • ZIP3 - >44600

In the dependent eligiblity rule, these family member groupings are assigned to all the subtypes of the Family/Related Person infotype (0021) that are specified as being potentially eligible. This eligibility rule is then assigned to the appropriate health plans by means of the dependent eligibility variant. During enrollment, dependents living within the same zip code area as the employee are automatically sorted into the appropriate grouping and are eligible to participate in the relevant health plan.
