In this IMG activity, you define the closing processes. You can specify the validity of these processes differently for each fiscal year variant. In a separate activity, you can then assign these closing processes to the relevant accounting systems per closing phase. If an assignment is made to an accounting system, all closing phases in this accounting system are then valid for all periods.

You want to restrict the closing phases to periods.
