Use
In this IMG activity, you specify the numbering scheme and thus the structure for commodity codes. You can also choose the type of description you want to display for commodity codes. The official description is shown on the customs document, irrespective of which description you display in the system.
A numbering scheme must comprise at least two levels. You have to define the number length (total length of the number, including this level), the maintenance option (exact length or format and scope), and a description for each level.
In some numbering systems, such as the German Electronic Customs Tariff (EZT), some goods are entered using supplementary units. Supplementary units are defined by the customs authorities and they are used for customs duty calculation or for statistical purposes. You therefore have to enter supplementary units in the messages and documents that you exchange with the customs authorities. In this IMG activity, you define supplementary units at the numbering scheme level for the various numbering systems. You also assign the supplementary units to the internal units of measurement defined in SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS). From the product classification, the system, establishes whether supplementary units are necessary to communicate with the customs authorities regarding a particular product.
If the denotation of the external unit of measurement is different from that of the internal unit of measurement, you can enter the conversion factor between the various units of measurement in this IMG activity. You have to convert units of measurement if the unit of measurement that you send to the customs authorities is different from the unit of measurement that you use to procure goods and that you enter in your inventory control system. For example, you can convert goods that you procure in the base unit of measure 'kilogram' into the unit of measure 'unit' - the unit that the customs authorities use to define rates of duty. By converting units of measurement, you can also assign different quantity relationships of a unit of measurement to the internal units of measurement.
Requirements
In the activity Check Units of Measurement in the standard settings, you have entered the units of measurement used by the customs authorities as internal units of measurement (if these units had not already been defined in the activity).
Standard settings
The standard configuration of this activity already contains numbering schemes, such as AHECC (Australian Harmonised Export Commodity Export Classification) and DESTA (German Commodity Codes ). It also contains associated data.
For example, the following data has already been assigned to AHECC .
- Commodity Code Structure
Level Length Mainten. Text
10 2 Exact length Chapter
20 4 Exact length Heading
30 6 Exact length HS Code
40 8 Exact length Export Statistical Item
- Maintain Product Master
- Product Category: Material
- Date Check: Valid-From and Valid-To Date Can Be Maintained
- External units of measure for data upload are not required.
Activities
Define a numbering scheme and enter a description for it.
In the dialog structure, choose Commodity Code Structure and enter the structure of the commodity code. Choose the description type.
Choose Maintain Product Master and enter the material and the time of the check.
If you have made the assignment of commodity codes time-dependent, you can assign the commodity codes to every other product master once this time interval has expired.
To assign the units of measurement used by the customs administration to the units of measurement provided by SAP Global Trade Services, choose External Units of Measure for Data Upload from the dialog structure. Ensure that you assign the units of measurement in such a way that they can be uniquely interpreted in both directions.
Example
Example of supplementary units used by the customs authorities:
Code Qualifier Meaning
CEN 100 units
DTN Hectokilogram
DTN E per 100 kg dry weight
DTN F per 100 kg wheat
DTN G per 100 kg gross weight
...
GRM Gram
KGM Kilogram
KGM A per 100 kg total alcohol content
KGM E per 100 kg dry weight
KGM G per 100 kg gross weight
LTR Liter
MIL 1000 units
NAR No. of units
In this IMG activity, the following supplementary units can be assigned to the internal unit of measurement (unit):
NAR (No. of units) conversion factor 1 internal unit of measurement St (unit)
CEN (100 units) conversion factor 100 internal unit of measurement St (unit)
MIL (1000 units) conversion factor 1000 internal unit of measurement St (unit)
To define and assign 1000 units from the Electronic Customs Tariff to the supplementary units in example 8212 20 00, you can make the following settings.
Chapter 82
Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts
thereof of base metal
Razors and razor blades (including blade blanks):
- Razors:
- - Razors with non-changeable blades .............................. 8212 10 10 (St)
- - Miscellaneous....................................................................................... 8212 10 90 (St)
- - Safety razor blades, including razor blade blanks in strips ................. 8212 20 00 (1000 St)
- Other parts of razors................................................................................ 8212 90 00 (-)
Supplementary unit: MIL
Description: Units
Internal unit of measurement: St (units)
ISO code: PCE (piece)
Basis for conversion: Document item quantity
Conversion factor: 1000
Unit of measurement: St (units)
