Use
In this IMG activity, you define a numbering scheme and a structure for number sets.
Number sets are intended to support you in classifying your products more easily, on both a cross-country level and a cross-application level . This means you can use a number set that you have defined in the product master to classify a product for more than one country at once and for more than one application area at once (for example, for both SAP Compliance Management and SAP Customs Management).
Requirements
- You have maintained numbering schemes for customs code numbers such as HTS numbers, commodity codes and so on.
- You have maintained these customs code numbers in SAP Global Trade Services (SAP GTS) either manually or by upload.

Activities
Number Set Scheme
- The first step is to define the number set by entering a name and a description for the numbering scheme of the number set.
- Save your entries.
Number Set Structure
- You must now define a reference structure to which the user and the system can refer later during the classification process in the product master data. Note that you can only have exactly one reference structure for each number set. Choose Number Set Structure in the dialog structure.
- The system defaults the numbering scheme name you defined in the previous activity. You define the number set structure based on the numbering scheme of the relevant customs code numbers. For example, if you want to create a number set structure for commodity codes and you decide to use the German commodity code structure as your reference, then you need to use the structure of the German commodity codes as a template for your number set.
- Call a second session and copy the structure of the existing customs code numbers exactly to your new number set structure. You do this for each level in the hierarchy, that is, for each chapter, heading, Harmonized System (HS) code, and Combined Nomenclature (CN) code. Save your entries.
- Do this for all the relevant customs code numbers in the structure.
Example
You want to define a numbering scheme for a new number set. The new number set is to support you in assigning commodity codes to products in SAP GTS.
To do this, you define a name for your new numbering scheme, such as SET1, and a description, such as Number Set for U.S.Commodity Codes.
You then need to define the structure of the numbering scheme for the number set. To do this, you open up a second session and go the Implementation Guide (IMG) for SAP GTS under General Settings -> Numbering Schemes -> Define Numbering Scheme for Commodity Codes.
You need a reference structure for your new number set numbering scheme. The reference structure is your existing numbering scheme for U.S. commodity codes. Select this row in the table and choose Commodity Code Structure from the dialog structure on the left side of the screen. Copy this structure exactly to the new number set numbering scheme structure you are creating. This means each level, length, maintenance, and description must be identical in both numbering schemes. (For more information on the individual column entries, see the field help). For example, if the first level of the existing numbering scheme for commodity codes is 10, enter 10 as the first level in your new number set numbering scheme.
Columns Commodity Code Scheme Number Set Scheme
Level 10 10
Length 2 2
Maintenance Exact length Exact length
Description Chapter Chapter
After you have copied these entries, save your entries, go back and choose New Entries again and continue with the next level. Continue with the item level, HS code level and CN code level until you have copied the entire structure of your reference numbering scheme.
Once you have finished, you must Assign Numbering Scheme of the Number Sets for Classification for your definitions and settings to take effect.
