Use

In this IMG activity, you define the structure and parameters for the codes that national authorities require for the encoding of goods in cross-border goods movements that are not directly linked with imports or exports. This additional coding of the goods for imports is required mainly by national authorities (OGA - other governmental agencies) in the U.S., for example, to check interstate regulations for products when those products are imported.

OGA codes are defined by the authorities and are based on the nomenclature of goods used for classification. Accordingly, OGA codes may exist in addition to a tariff number.

OGA codes contain rules that you have to observe in cross-border goods movements, in addition to the rules encoded in the tariff numbers. You therefore have to be able to assign OGA codes to the products in classification. The OGA codes must exist in a specified structure and may be time-dependent.

Activities

Define the numbering scheme for which you want to define the structure and parameters for the OGA codes under Scheme of OGA Codes.

Define the structure and hierarchy levels of the OGA codes under Structure of OGA Codes. Make sure you create exactly two hierarchy levels.

  • In the first hierarchy level, define the agency/authority for which the OGA codes are intended. We recommend using the following settings:
    • Level:        10
    • Section Length:    02
    • Maintenance Type:    Exact length
    • Description:    Authority
  • In the second hierarchy level, define the OGA code. We recommend using the following settings:
    • Level:        20
    • Section Length:    03
    • Maintenance Type:    Exact length
    • Description:    OGA code

To ensure the correct display of the OGA codes in SAP GTS, make sure you do not create more than two hierarchy levels.
